SEO & Content
SEO is the work of helping search engines understand your pages so the right people find them. Xilancer gives you controls for the important parts without requiring code.
What search engines see
For every public page, the site produces:
- A title shown in the browser tab and the search result.
- A meta description shown under the title in search results.
- A canonical URL that tells search engines which address is the main one.
- A robots instruction that says whether the page can be indexed.
- Structured data (JSON-LD) that describes the page type.
Administrators can control these globally. Freelancers can control their profile and services.
Profile SEO
- Open Settings → Profile.
- Find the SEO section.
- Enter a meta title. Keep it under 60 characters.
- Enter a meta description. Keep it under 160 characters.
- Choose whether the profile can appear in search results.
- Save.
Weekly edit limit
Profile SEO fields can be edited once a week. The page shows the next date you can change them. The limit exists to stop rapid changes that confuse search engines and to reduce spam.
Plan your title before you save. A good pattern is:
Role - Specialty | Your Name
For example: Shopify Designer - Conversion Focused | Alex Rahman.
Should I hide my profile from search?
Hide it if:
- You only want clients you already know.
- Your profile contains a name you use privately.
- You are between engagements and do not want stale availability.
Do not hide it if you rely on inbound clients.
Service and job SEO
Services and jobs inherit the site's templates. The administrator can override the title and description per page type.
What you control:
- A specific title with the outcome.
- A description that uses the words clients search for.
- Complete category, subcategory, skills, and work area.
- Clear pricing.
What you should avoid:
- Keyword stuffing.
- Copying another freelancer's description.
- Contact details in the description. They may be blocked and can cause rejection.
Slugs and URLs
A slug is the readable part of a URL. Xilancer generates slugs from the title and supports Vietnamese and Cyrillic characters.
- Keep titles readable; the slug follows the title.
- Avoid special characters that need encoding.
- Do not change the slug repeatedly. Old links may redirect, but stability is better.
Canonical URLs
A canonical URL tells search engines which version of a page is the main one. This matters when the same content is reachable through filters, pagination, or tracking parameters.
The site sets canonical URLs automatically. If you use a custom SEO plugin, do not override the canonical unless you know what you are doing.
One H1 per page
Each page should have one main heading. Xilancer enforces this by demoting duplicate headings. If you paste content with its own H1, it may be displayed as an H2.
Sitemap and robots
The sitemap is generated at:
sitemap/sitemap.xml
The path is stable, so Search Console does not need a new submission after an upgrade. The sitemap includes public jobs, services, profiles, and blog posts, subject to the noindex settings.
The robots.txt file controls crawling. Administrators can set global rules. Individual pages can
be excluded with noindex.
JSON-LD structured data
Structured data helps search engines show richer results: job postings, services, profiles, reviews, and breadcrumbs.
The site adds structured data automatically where the page type is known. Administrators can adjust it through the SEO Tools plugin. Do not add a second set of structured data for the same page; search engines may ignore both.
Blog
The blog has its own categories and tags.
Create a category
- Open Admin → Blog → Categories.
- Choose Add category.
- Enter the name and slug.
- Save.
Create a tag
- Open Admin → Blog → Tags.
- Choose Add tag.
- Enter the name and slug.
- Save.
Write a post
- Open Admin → Blog → Posts.
- Choose Add post.
- Enter the title, content, category, and tags.
- Add a featured image with descriptive alt text.
- Set the meta title and description if the SEO fields are shown.
- Publish.
Old posts keep their original tag_name value, so existing archives do not break.
SEO Tools plugin (administrators)
If the plugin is active, Admin → SEO Tools adds:
- Per-URL rules: exact, prefix, or regex match.
- Templates: home, job, project, profile, blog, category, static page.
- Robots directives: index, noindex, follow, nofollow.
- JSON-LD blocks.
- Open Graph and canonical overrides.
Rules are evaluated in order. A specific rule beats a template. Test with a private window and inspect the page source to confirm the title, description, canonical, and robots tags.
A practical SEO checklist
- Every important page has a unique title.
- Every important page has a description that reads like a sentence.
- Profiles that should be found are indexable.
- Services and jobs have complete categories and skills.
- Images have descriptive alt text.
- The sitemap loads and lists the pages you expect.
-
robots.txtdoes not block the whole site by accident. - Canonical URLs point to the public address, not a staging address.
- No page has two H1 headings.
- Old URLs redirect to the new ones.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Same title on every page | Search engines pick one and ignore the rest | Use unique titles |
| Noindex left on after launch | Pages disappear from search | Check robots settings |
| Staging URL in canonical | Search engines index the wrong host | Set the production URL |
| Keyword stuffing | Lower quality score, possible penalty | Write for people |
| Duplicate service descriptions | Pages compete with each other | Rewrite each service |
| Changing slugs weekly | Lost rankings and broken links | Choose once, keep it |
