Chat & Notifications

Chat keeps the conversation, the files, and the agreement in one place. Notifications tell you when something needs attention.

Open a chat

  • From a job or service, choose Contact or Message.
  • From an order, choose Message.
  • From the dashboard, open Chat and choose a conversation.

The chat list shows the last message and the time it was sent, so you can see what needs a reply without opening every thread.

Send a message

  1. Type in the message box.
  2. Press Enter to send, or use the send button.
  3. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.

Messages appear immediately. A single check means sent, a double check means delivered, and a filled double check means seen.

Attachments

Upload a file

  1. Choose the paperclip or attachment icon.
  2. Pick a file.
  3. Wait for the upload to finish.
  4. Send.

You can also drag a file onto the chat area.

Supported files

Images, video, audio, PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, archives, and other common types. Very large files may be rejected by the site's upload limit.

Image galleries

When several images are sent together, they appear as a gallery. Choose an image to open the lightbox, then move between images or download them.

Voice notes

  1. Choose the microphone icon.
  2. Allow the browser to use your microphone the first time.
  3. Record your message.
  4. Stop and send.

Voice notes play inline. They are useful for explaining a small change quickly, but put important agreements in text so they are easy to find later.

Replies and reactions

  • Reply: hover a message and choose Reply. The quoted message appears above your reply.
  • React: choose the emoji icon and pick a reaction. Reactions update in real time.
  • Edit: you can edit your own message. An (edited) label appears.
  • Delete: you can delete your own message where the site allows it.

Typing and presence

  • Typing... appears while the other person is writing.
  • Active now means the person is online.
  • Last seen shows when they were last active.

Presence is a convenience, not a guarantee. Someone can be online and busy.

Offers in chat

Freelancers can send a custom offer from a chat.

  1. Open the conversation.
  2. Choose Send offer.
  3. Enter the price, description, deadline, and revisions.
  4. Send.

The client can accept, decline, or reply. Accepted offers become orders. The offer stays in the conversation so both sides can check what was agreed.

Notifications

The bell in the header shows unread notifications. Choose it to open the list.

Notification types include:

  • New message.
  • New proposal or offer.
  • Order status change.
  • Payment or withdrawal update.
  • Review or rating.
  • Security warning.
  • Admin announcement.

Clear all

Choose Clear all to mark every notification as read. The badge count is calculated by the server, so it stays correct across devices and after a refresh.

Realtime updates

If the administrator has configured Pusher or Reverb, notifications and chat messages arrive without refreshing. Without realtime, the site still updates on page load and when you open the list.

Browser push

Browser push shows a notification even when the site is in a background tab.

  1. Open Settings → Notifications.
  2. Choose Enable browser notifications.
  3. Allow notifications when the browser asks.

If the browser does not ask, notifications may be blocked in the browser's site settings. Unblock the site and try again.

Push requires the administrator to configure VAPID keys. If push is not available, the setting is hidden or shows as unavailable.

Email notifications

You can choose which events send email.

  1. Open Settings → Notifications.
  2. Turn each event on or off.
  3. Save.

Common toggles:

  • New message.
  • New proposal.
  • Order updates.
  • Delivery reminders.
  • Marketing announcements.

Security emails, password resets, and invoice emails are always sent because they are part of the account and financial record.

Offline chat email

If someone messages you and you are offline, the site can email you. To avoid flooding your inbox, these emails are limited to one every six hours per conversation. The chat still keeps every message.

Support tickets

For account, payment, or order problems that are not a normal chat:

  1. Open Support.
  2. Choose a department.
  3. Write the subject and message.
  4. Attach evidence if useful.
  5. Submit.

You receive a notification when support replies. Freelancers with a higher level may receive priority handling, depending on the site's settings.

Etiquette and safety

  • Keep payments on the platform. Off-platform payment requests are a warning sign.
  • Do not share passwords or verification codes.
  • Do not move to another app to avoid the marketplace's records.
  • Report harassment, spam, or requests to pay outside the site.
  • Remember that administrators can review chat during a dispute.

The site may scan messages for contact details and restricted words. If a message is blocked, rewrite it without the contact information.

Troubleshooting

Messages do not send

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Refresh the page.
  • Try a different browser.
  • If the message contains a link or phone number, the site may be blocking it.

I did not receive a notification

  • Check the bell list first.
  • Check Settings → Notifications.
  • Check your email spam folder.
  • Check the browser's notification permissions.
  • Realtime may be offline; the list still updates on refresh.

A file will not upload

  • Check the file size against the site limit.
  • Try a different format.
  • Compress images before sending.
  • Ask the other person to use a link for very large files.
